Vega Clara 'Diez Almendros', Ribera del Duero, Spain, 2020

Intense, spicy with lots of balsamic hints. On the pallet, it shows itself fine, fresh and fruity. Lively with a smooth silky, creamy finish. Very pleasant-sweet and balanced wine.

Clara Concejo farms 8 hectares along Ribera del Duero’s famous Golden Mile. The Diez Almandras (which means 'the 10 almond trees') is 75% Tempranillo and “25% others,” or more accurately, “A very fine, fruity special variety which is our best secret.” Whatever it is, it’s delicious.

An explosion of blackberry and plum fruit, a nice peppery note, and just a touch of vanilla oak, not too much. Nicely concentrated, with a ripe, round tannic structure, and surprising length. This is already very enjoyable to drink now and will continue to impress over the next several years. Get fancy and pour it with wine-braised short ribs.
